Flyers Recall Alex Bump, Send Adam Ginning to AHL

Following the trade of Bobby Brink to Minnesota on Friday, the Philadelphia Flyers have recalled Alex Bump from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. The team aims to bolster its NHL roster amid a tight playoff race in the Eastern Conference, with Bump now poised to potentially make his NHL debut.

Background and Performance of Alex Bump

Alex Bump, 22, was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, going 133rd overall. At that point, Bump was active in the USHL before transitioning to Western Michigan University, where he significantly improved his offensive output. Over two seasons with the Broncos, Bump recorded 37 goals and 46 assists in 80 games, a performance that convinced Philadelphia to sign him to a professional contract.

Bump appeared in two games with Lehigh Valley toward the end of last season and has played exclusively with the Phantoms this year. Across 36 games in the current season, he has accumulated 11 goals and 15 assists, placing him in a tie for fourth on the team in scoring.

Flyers’ Current Standings and Bump’s NHL Prospects

The Flyers enter their next game six points behind the final Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference, maintaining a competitive stance despite recent trade activity. Whether Bump will make his NHL debut in the upcoming matchup against Pittsburgh remains uncertain, as the team may choose to keep him developing with the Phantoms for a longer period.

Adam Ginning Reassigned to the Phantoms

Alongside the recall of Bump, the Flyers have reassigned defenseman Adam Ginning back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Rather than using a non-emergency recall to bring Ginning back immediately, the organization plans for him to continue gaining regular playing time in the AHL for now.
