Bruins Extend Frederic Brunet with 2-Year $1.75M Deal

The Boston Bruins have strengthened their defensive depth by agreeing to a two-year contract extension with Frederic Brunet, the team announced Monday. The new deal will keep Brunet under contract through the 2027-28 NHL season, reflecting the organization’s confidence in the 22-year-old’s development.

Details of Brunet’s Contract and Early NHL Experience

The contract carries an average annual cap hit of $875,000. It includes a two-way provision for the 2026-27 season, allowing movement between NHL and AHL, and becomes a one-way deal for 2027-28. Brunet made his NHL debut with Boston in April 2025, appearing in one game where he registered two shots, five blocked shots, one hit, and logged 14 minutes and 23 seconds of ice time while finishing with a minus-one rating.

Brunet’s Path from Draft to AHL Success

A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Brunet was originally selected by the Bruins in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. During the 2025-26 season, he played for the AHL’s Providence Bruins, appearing in 55 games. He led the team’s defensemen with 11 goals and 17 assists, totaling 28 points. Over 173 career AHL games—all with Providence—Brunet has accumulated 18 goals and 49 points, showcasing consistent offensive production from the blue line.

Implications of Brunet’s Extension for the Bruins

This extension indicates Boston’s intent to continue developing Brunet as a valuable asset on defense, balancing his time between the NHL and AHL. His progress in Providence and early NHL exposure suggest he remains a promising prospect for the Bruins’ future defensive corps as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
