Carlos Alcaraz has shared his thoughts on whether he can match Novak Djokovic’s career longevity and dismissed the notion that he has already reached the same tier as the Big Three. The 22-year-old world No 1 recently secured his first Australian Open title by defeating Djokovic in a four-set final, marking his seventh Grand Slam victory overall.
Alcaraz set a new record as the youngest male player in the Open Era to win all four major tournaments, surpassing the previous mark held by his idol, Rafael Nadal. In their recent final at Rod Laver Arena, there was a notable 16-year age difference between Alcaraz and Djokovic, who is nearing 39 years old.
Alcaraz’s Perspective on His Future in Tennis
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Alcaraz was asked if he envisions playing at Djokovic’s level when he reaches 38. He noted that this is not something he currently focuses on. Instead, the rising star expressed hope for continuing to compete at Grand Slam finals against new generations of players.
I hope I can reach my age challenging a new generation of tennis players and playing in Grand Slam finals.
