Arthur Fils has confirmed that Goran Ivanisevic will join his coaching team for the 2026 season following his recent progress to the quarter-finals in Doha. The French player, aiming to reclaim his place among the world’s top athletes, sees this partnership as a key step in his comeback.
Progress After a Challenging 2025 Season
Fils endured a difficult 2025 campaign, disrupted by injury at Roland Garros, which prevented him from competing at full strength. After also missing the Australian Open earlier this year, the young Frenchman returned to competition in Montpellier and is currently competing in his third tournament of the year in Doha.
In Doha, Fils overcame Kamil Majchrzak in the opening round and then won a convincing match against Quentin Halys, with scores of 6-1, 7-6(7), securing his spot in the last eight.
Reasons Behind Bringing Ivanisevic Onboard
Fils has decided to bring the experience of Goran Ivanisevic to his team as he focuses on regaining form and climbing the rankings. After his victory in Doha, Fils explained his decision, stating,
“Hell of a champion, winner of a slam and coached a lot of top guys,”
as he shared with the ATP website.
He added,
“So yeah he’s helping me during the season. I mean we’re going to try but I think it’s good for me, it’s maybe the best for me to have his experience as a coach and as a player. So very very happy that he joined us during this long journey.”
Ivanisevic’s Coaching Background and Fils’ Aspirations
Goran Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon champion, has previously coached notable players including Novak Djokovic and had a brief stint working with Elena Rybakina. His role with Fils aims to aid the Frenchman in regaining fitness and consistency after time away from competition.
Currently ranked 40th globally, Fils hopes to secure a seed for Roland Garros this year, making the upcoming tournaments critical to his progress.
Upcoming Challenge in Doha
Fils will next face Jiri Lehecka as he strives to advance to the semi-finals in Doha. Success here would mark another important milestone on his journey back to top-level tennis.
