Daniil Medvedev Claims Dubai Title After Final Walkover

Third-seed Daniil Medvedev secured the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title on Saturday when his opponent, Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands, withdrew before the final due to a hamstring injury in the United Arab Emirates. Medvedev’s victory marks his 23rd career triumph and his second win at the Dubai event, having previously won in 2023.

Griekspoor Battled Injury in Semifinal Victory over Rublev

Griekspoor reached the final after defeating Russia’s fifth-seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets during the Friday semifinals, despite struggling with a hamstring injury sustained in that match. He revealed that had he lost the second set, he would have been forced to retire from the tournament. Medvedev had previously eliminated top-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the other semifinal, maintaining an undefeated record without dropping a set throughout the competition.

Daniil Medvedev Expresses Concern for Griekspoor’s Health

Medvedev shared his feelings about the unusual way the tournament ended for him, expressing empathy toward his opponent.
