During a recent ATP Tour video, Alex de Minaur expressed his irritation toward Hubert Hurkacz’s serving routine, describing it as a major frustration when they face each other on court. De Minaur, recognized as one of the top tennis players globally and notable for leading established stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in certain rankings, called out Hurkacz’s lack of visible enthusiasm before delivering powerful serves.
De Minaur shared,
“What I hate about Hubi Hurkacz. How he walks up to the court, walks up to serve, just wobbles around, he’s not even interested,”
making clear his annoyance at Hurkacz’s casual approach despite his effectiveness.
He continued,
“Gets up to the line, bounces the ball a couple times, doesn’t look interested and then serves a 234 km/h ace.”
De Minaur added,
“It is so frustrating mate. Show a little bit of passion, alright. At least make me feel better about myself after you’ve aced me. But you do it every single time and you make it look way too easy. I don’t like that about you.”
Hurkacz’s renowned serving power has been a key component in his success on the ATP Tour, helping him claim two Masters 1000 titles and reach the Wimbledon semifinals.
De Minaur’s Success Against Hurkacz Despite Serve Difficulties
Although De Minaur finds Hubert Hurkacz’s serve frustrating, he maintains a positive balance in their career encounters. Leading the head-to-head 3-1, De Minaur has demonstrated an ability to counteract the Polish player’s formidable serve.
This resilience was evident at the United Cup earlier this year when De Minaur defeated Hurkacz in a tightly contested three-set match. Their rivalry remains competitive, highlighting De Minaur’s tactical growth against one of the tour’s best servers.
Looking ahead, it appears unlikely the two will meet at the upcoming Indian Wells tournament, as both players would need to advance to the semifinals, which remains uncertain. The tournament’s main draw begins Wednesday, March 4, setting the stage for further high-stakes matches.
