Four Fathers Brewery’s Pickleball Society is celebrating its first anniversary with a free open house on Wednesday. The event, taking place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Guelph Avenue brewery, offers attendees a chance to experience pickleball through round-robin play, pro matchups, and special anniversary sales at the pro shop.
A Year of Growth and Community Building
Since its launch in early 2024, the Pickleball Society has expanded its programming and built strong partnerships within the pickleball community.
Collaborations with local businesses and municipal partners, including the City of Kitchener and the Hespeler Village BIA, have helped make the facility an inclusive space for players of all skill levels.
The inspiration for the courts began in 2022 when Four Fathers Brewing Co. owners Martin Castellan and Mike Hruden discovered pickleball while visiting Naples, Florida.
Drawn to its accessibility and fast-paced nature, they saw an opportunity to bring the sport to Hespeler. Within 18 months, part of the brewery’s warehouse was changed into Cambridge’s first pickleball facility.
Excitement for the Future
“Four Fathers Brewing Co. strives to be a destination brewery that fosters community and active living. The introduction of pickleball at Four Fathers was a natural extension of our commitment to our mission.” – (Shakil, program director and coach)
“We are excited to see the Society continue to grow and look forward to continuing attracting both those new to pickleball and elite athletes that come to play at our
premier facility, as we continue to expand our services.” – (Shakil)
The open house offers an opportunity for new and experienced players to enjoy the sport in a welcoming setting. With its continued growth and strong community engagement, the Pickleball Society aims to further establish itself as a key hub for pickleball enthusiasts in Cambridge.
