600 Athletes Battle for Team BC Glory at Pickleball Depot Provincial Championships in Vernon

Pickleball Depot Provincial Championships: The Pickleball Depot Provincial Championships are now underway in Vernon, British Columbia. From July 24 to July 27, more than 600 athletes from across the province are competing in five events hosted by the Vernon Pickleball Association at three local venues.

Four Days of Matches Across Age Groups

The event features men’s and women’s singles and doubles, along with mixed doubles. In total, there are 62 different competitions divided by skill level and age. Players range from as young as 13 to over 70 years old.

Tournament director Richard Chambers shared how much work goes into organizing the championship.

“Vernon Pickleball Association is pleased to be hosting, once again, the BC Pickleball Championships, with 600 competitors and 40 accredited referees,”. “Dedicated volunteers are filling over 300 shifts over the four days. Without these folks, we could not put on such an event.”(Richard Chambers)

Matches begin each morning at 8:00 a.m. and end around 6:00 p.m. daily. The men’s and women’s singles events kick off the action on Thursday, followed by women’s doubles on Friday. Saturday will be all about mixed doubles, while the tournament concludes on Sunday with the men’s doubles matches.

Locations and Final Team BC Selection

Games are being played at the Vernon Pickleball Association building and nearby tennis courts at Marshall Field. On Saturday only, some matches will also take place at Creekside Park in Coldstream.

This championship also serves an important role in the provincial sports calendar. It is the last chance for players to impress selectors and earn a spot on Team BC, which will travel to Winnipeg in August to compete in the national championships.

Spectators are welcome at all three locations, offering fans a chance to support local athletes and enjoy competitive pickleball in action.

A Showcase of Community and Talent

With players coming from all over British Columbia, this event brings together a wide mix of experience, skill, and passion for the sport. Volunteers, referees, and organizers have all worked hard to make the tournament run smoothly.

The Vernon Pickleball Association’s commitment to hosting large events like this highlights how fast pickleball is growing in the province. The competition is expected to offer strong performances and key matchups that could shape the future of Team BC.
