Abhishek Madhukar and the Pickleball Revolution: Transforming Passion into Profit

Abhishek Madhukar and the Pickleball Revolution: The popularity of pickleball in India is growing rapidly, transforming it into a lucrative investment option. Players are combining their passion for the sport with the potential for profits, making it an exciting time for this American-born game, which entered the Indian sports scene just four years ago.

One early morning, Abhishek Madhukar was awakened by an unusual ‘tak, tak, tak’ sound coming from a badminton court near his home. Curious about the noise, he discovered pickleball for the first time. As a tennis player from Lucknow, he was intrigued by the sport’s simplicity and decided to give it a try. After a few rounds, he was hooked. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a business venture, leading to the creation of Quadwoke, a one-stop solution for all things pickleball.

A Sport for Everyone

Initially seen as a pastime for retirees, pickleball is now attracting players of all ages.

“Whether it be in societies or clubs, the sport is clearly growing. I also found that everyone, from 6 to 70, was playing pickleball, and that’s when I realised there was a huge business opportunity here,” (Abhishek Madhukar).

Despite its rising popularity, there are currently only about 1,000 pickleball courts in India. However, building a pickleball court requires only one-fourth of the space needed for a tennis court and can be constructed for around Rs 50,000.

Soaring Demand and Rental Costs

With high demand for the sport, rental prices for pickleball courts have surged, reaching up to Rs 1,800 per hour. Experts believe that investors can see profits within the first year after covering setup costs.

The cost of equipment is also minimal, making pickleball an attractive option for players. A paddle starts at just Rs 2,500, and players only need a wiffle ball to play, further lowering the barrier to entry for new participants.

The Future of Pickleball in India

The current pickleball craze in India presents significant opportunities for investment and growth. As more people discover the sport, demand for courts and equipment is expected to rise. This trend could lead to the establishment of more pickleball facilities across the country, further enhancing the sport’s popularity.

With passionate players like Madhukar leading the way, pickleball’s future in India looks promising. As the sport continues to expand, it may become a mainstream recreational activity, attracting players from all walks of life.
