AVL RACETECH Teams Up with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing

AVL RACETECH has formed a partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) to improve vehicle dynamics simulation and performance evaluation, aiming to boost competitiveness in the INDYCAR SERIES. This collaboration, established recently, leverages AVL’s software capabilities combined with dedicated engineering support to integrate smoothly into RLL’s development process.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Legacy and New Season Plans

Located in Zionsville, Indiana, RLL is a prominent team in North American open-wheel racing with a long-standing history. Looking ahead to the 2026 INDYCAR season, Mick Schumacher, formerly a Formula One driver, is set to join RLL and has already completed early testing sessions as he prepares for his full rookie campaign in American open-wheel racing.

Insights from Key Team Members on Racing Challenges and Goals

Todd Malloy, RLL’s Head of Race Engineering, emphasized the complexity of the INDYCAR SERIES:

“The INDYCAR SERIES is a unique motorsport formula that covers more track types than any other form of auto racing. INDYCAR DNA includes events at road courses, street courses, superspeedways and short ovals. Aside from the different track layouts and surfaces, this also means vastly different aerodynamic configurations and tire types from event to event.”

Ellen Lohr, Director Motorsport at AVL List GmbH, highlighted the depth of RLL’s experience:

“RLL represents decades of experience and success in North American open-wheel racing. Our objective is to contribute measurable performance gains through advanced vehicle dynamics simulation and close technical collaboration.”

Michael Peinsitt, Team Leader Race Engineering at AVL List GmbH, noted the demand for efficient virtual development due to the variety of circuits and limited testing opportunities:

“The diversity of circuit types, strict testing limitations, and intense competition in the INDYCAR SERIES demand highly efficient virtual development processes.”

Anticipated Effects of the Collaboration on Future Competitions

This partnership between AVL RACETECH and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing aims to provide the team with a technological edge by optimizing vehicle performance through simulation-driven insights. As the 2026 INDYCAR season approaches, this collaboration could significantly influence RLL’s ability to adapt to varied racing conditions and maintain competitive advantage across diverse circuits.
