Miguel Andujar Joins Padres on $4M One-Year Deal

Miguel Andujar agreed to a one-year contract with the San Diego Padres worth $4 million, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday. The agreement, initially reported by The New York Post, depends on Andujar passing a physical examination.

Performance-Based Incentives Included in Deal

The deal allows Andujar to earn over $2 million more through performance bonuses. The outfielder earned a $3 million salary during the previous season.

Recent Career and Statistics Overview

Andujar, who will turn 30 on March 2, batted .318 last year, contributing 10 home runs and 44 RBIs while playing for the Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. The Reds acquired him on July 31 in exchange for minor league pitcher Kenya Huggins.

Over his nine-year major league career, Andujar has maintained a .282 batting average with 53 home runs and 223 RBIs. He has played for several teams including the New York Yankees (2017-22), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), Athletics (2024-25), and the Reds.

Primarily known as a third baseman, Andujar had his breakout season in 2018 when he hit .297 with 27 home runs and 92 RBIs, finishing second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting behind Shohei Ohtani.

Significance of the Signing for the Padres

The Padres add a versatile veteran bat with Andujar’s signing, potentially boosting their lineup depth. His experience across multiple teams and consistent hitting could contribute meaningfully during the upcoming season, as he looks to regain his earlier form and help San Diego’s playoff ambitions.
