Aaron Judge appeared in a striking new commercial for NBC’s return to Major League Baseball, debuting during the pregame show of the 2026 Super Bowl. Filmed last winter at Yankee Stadium, the ad showcases Judge wearing his iconic No. 99 pinstripes, symbolizing the network’s renewed commitment to baseball coverage starting with the upcoming season.
NBC is resuming its MLB broadcasts after a 26-year hiatus, beginning with an Opening Day doubleheader and continuing its coverage with the Sunday Night Baseball package, which had previously aired on ESPN. This marks NBC’s rebirth as a regular-season MLB broadcaster, leveraging stars like Judge to reconnect with fans nationwide.
A Creative Spotlight on Baseball Meets Iconic NBC Landmarks
The 30-second commercial cleverly integrates NBC’s famous New York studios into the baseball-themed spectacle. Aaron Judge is shown at Yankee Stadium under glowing lights before launching a series of baseballs that wildly crash through various NBC venues at Rockefeller Center. The balls disrupt sets for the Today Show, Law & Order: SVU, Saturday Night Live, and Late Night With Seth Meyers, all set to the classic tune
“Bang a Gong (Get It On)”
by T. Rex.
The ad features a memorable moment where Seth Meyers picks up a stray baseball and groans “Judge!”—a nod to the famous Captain Kirk “Khan!” scene from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The commercial closes with Judge playfully swinging his bat, flashing a lighthearted apology as NBC personalities echo his name enthusiastically.

Details on Yankees’ NBC Game Appearances and MLB Schedule
Though the commercial aired during the Super Bowl, Yankees fans won’t catch Aaron Judge on NBC games immediately. The first Yankees broadcast on Sunday Night Baseball is set for June 28 against Boston, followed by games on July 19 versus the Dodgers and July 26 at Philadelphia, all available on NBC and Peacock streaming.
The MLB season kicks off for NBC on March 26 with a doubleheader: the Mets hosting the Pirates and the defending World Series champion Dodgers facing Arizona. Notably, the Mets’ season opener will air exclusively on NBC and Peacock, bypassing local broadcaster SNY.
Behind the Scenes: Concept and Production Insights
Lyndsay Signor, senior vice president of sports marketing at NBCUniversal, explained the strategy behind the ad’s creation. The commercial was designed to take advantage of NBC’s large February audience to announce the return of MLB with a broad message that resonates beyond just sports enthusiasts. Signor noted that the concept was born during collaborative sessions in a “sports writer’s room” led by Jeremy Quayhackx, focusing on blending NBC’s entertainment legacy with baseball excitement.
“The ad came about as we were thinking about using the huge audience that we’ll have in February to debut our first spot for MLB back on NBC and streaming on Peacock,”
Lyndsay Signor, senior vice president, sports marketing for NBCUniversal.
“So as the team led by Jeremy Quayhackx put their brains together in their own sports writer’s room, the concept of this idea of Aaron Judge just ripping balls that end up coming through 30 Rock came to life. We really wanted this to feel very uniquely NBC by bringing in [intellectual property] and talent from across our entertainment networks.”
Why Aaron Judge Was the Perfect Fit for NBC’s First MLB Spot
While other MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani led in jersey sales, NBC chose Judge to headline the campaign largely because of his connection to New York, NBCUniversal’s home base. The commercial’s setting at 30 Rock, the heart of NBC’s studios, gave an authentic New York City flavor that aligned perfectly with Judge and the Yankees.
“There’s obviously many huge names in MLB,”
said Signor.
“One of the things at least for this first spot was really tying it again back to us. Our home base is 30 Rock. I think that’s what most people would associate NBCUniversal with is the home base of 30 Rock in New York City. So having all of these shows in and around shooting at 30 Rock, whether it’s ‘SNL’ or Seth’s show or the ‘Today Show,’ having that New York City anchor really lent itself to working with the Yankees and Aaron Judge as one of the biggest stars in MLB for a spot like this. Particularly if literally he’s hitting balls from Yankee Stadium crashing into 30 Rock. It really made sense to go out to him for the first spot that we debuted at the Super Bowl.”

Notable NBC Talent Featured in the Commercial
The commercial brings together familiar NBC faces alongside Judge. It features Today Show hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Carson Daly, Law & Order: SVU’s Kelli Giddish, SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, and Seth Meyers. A person dressed as the iconic NBC peacock mascot makes an appearance and is humorously the only character struck directly by one of Judge’s home run balls.
Implications for Baseball Fans and NBC’s Sports Programming Future
NBC’s aggressive return to baseball broadcasting signals a major shift in the sports television landscape. With strong branding efforts centered around stars like Aaron Judge, the network aims to regain a diverse viewership and blend its entertainment portfolio with live sports. The inclusion of Peacock streaming options also reflects modern viewing habits and is designed to attract younger fans across various platforms.
For Yankees fans, Judge’s presence in this high-profile campaign underscores his status as one of baseball’s leading figures and promises exciting NBC broadcasts to look forward to this season. The ad’s playful yet strategic execution highlights NBC’s dedication to making its MLB coverage memorable and relevant in today’s competitive sports market.
