“The first thing that I need to do is just work and improve in that position.”
He added,
“I feel comfortable. Especially now that I know that’s going to be my position. I just gotta continue working, improving on it, and just give my 100%.”
Adjustments After Transitioning from Third Base
Throughout most of his career, Devers played third base. His shift to first base in 2025 came after Boston’s Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury, forcing the Red Sox to shuffle their infield with Alex Bregman occupying third base. At the time, Devers was reluctant to change positions, especially since the team had initially instructed him during spring training to concentrate on being a designated hitter.
