Brendan Rodgers Healthy, Eyes Utility Role on Red Sox Roster

Brendan Rodgers has fully recovered from his injuries and is set to compete for a utility role on the Boston Red Sox roster as spring training begins. According to Sean McAdam of MassLive.com, Rodgers will be aiming to secure a spot on the Red Sox’s Opening Day squad by demonstrating his versatility.

Injury Challenges and Recovery Journey

After signing a one-year contract with the Houston Astros last February, Rodgers appeared in only 43 major league games in 2025. His season was disrupted early on by an oblique strain, followed by a severe collision during a minor-league rehab assignment in July. The incident resulted in a concussion and multiple injuries to his back, knee, and hip. Although he briefly resumed rehab in late August, he was shut down after one game. With the offseason allowing him to fully heal, Rodgers now returns to camp reportedly at full strength.

Versatility Key to Making the Red Sox Roster

Rodgers, who earned a Gold Glove Award at second base with the Colorado Rockies in 2022, must now prove he can effectively cover multiple infield positions. His ability to adapt and contribute across various roles will be crucial in increasing his chances of making the team as a utility player on Opening Day.
