Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Aims to Join Shohei Ohtani’s 50/50 Club

The New York Yankees are entering the new season with high hopes for a World Series title during Aaron Judge‘s prime years. Among their key players is second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr, who confidently declared his goal to become only the second Major League Baseball player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season, following Shohei Ohtani‘s unprecedented achievement.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic spoke with Chisholm, who expressed unwavering ambition:

After 30-30, he isn’t aiming for 40-40. He wants more. Chisholm’s sights are set on the 50-50 club, occupied only by Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani. Reminded that 50-50 has been accomplished just once in MLB history, he shrugged. ‘You’re looking at the second one,’ Chisholm said,

Kirschner reported.

Chisholm’s Confidence in His Abilities and Role with the Yankees

Chisholm stressed his belief that he has the talent to reach true superstardom. Speaking candidly, he said,

Ask Cap (Aaron Judge). Real life. Let’s just be realistic.

He added,

I got all the tools for it. I have the speed, the power, the plate discipline, the eye at the plate, defense. I got everything to accumulate a 10-WAR season.

This confidence comes after Chisholm helped the Yankees reach the World Series off a mid-season trade in 2024, where he played third base. With Gleyber Torres departing before the 2025 season, Chisholm returned to second base and delivered a notable 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases in that position last year.

High Expectations as Yankees Look for Continued Offensive Success

While joining the 50-50 club is an ambitious goal, Chisholm remains optimistic about his impact this season. His impressive power was a key component of the Yankees’ potent offense that led the league last year. With much of the lineup returning intact, expectations are high for consistent performance from Chisholm to help lead the team forward.

Maintaining Confidence Amidst Competitive Pressure

Chisholm has never wavered in his confidence, particularly in his team. During spring training, he reaffirmed his belief that the Yankees are the team to beat in the American League in 2025, even despite limited success against the Toronto Blue Jays. His bold assertion about reaching the 50-50 milestone also underscores his self-assurance and determination heading into the new season.
