WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Cavan Biggio has rejoined the Houston Astros for spring training, marking a meaningful return to the organization that shaped much of his early baseball life. The timing and location feel personal for Biggio, as he seeks to secure a spot on the Astros roster in the upcoming season, leveraging his major league experience with several other teams.
Family Ties and Early Memories with Houston Baseball
Biggio comes from deep roots in the Astros organization; he is the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, who cemented a legendary legacy with the team. Growing up, Cavan spent time around Astros clubhouses and training fields, often following his father through both Kissimmee and West Palm Beach spring training facilities.
This organization has always been very special to me, and it’s an absolute honor to don the uniform now,
Biggio said.
First time in West Palm, you know, I grew up running around the fields in Kissimmee with my brother, and those are some of the best memories of my life,
he added, reflecting on his childhood connection to the team’s spring training sites.
Fan Recollections Highlight Biggio’s Early Passion
Longtime Astros enthusiast Donna Hopkins recalled spotting Biggio as a young boy signing autographs along the fence during spring training, even when it risked his father’s disapproval. Such moments highlight the familiarity and affection between Biggio and the Astros community that has lasted over the years.

I was afraid to because your brother was saying Dad is going to get you,
Hopkins said.
And you said, ‘I got to give the people what they want.’
Manager Joe Espada Praises Biggio’s Skills and Versatility
Astros manager Joe Espada emphasized that Biggio’s current role is based on merit and team needs rather than nostalgia. Espada pointed to Biggio’s left-handed batting, positional flexibility, and professional attitude as key assets.
Lefty bat, can play multiple positions, professional approach from the left side, get on base, he’s got some power, the versatility,
Espada noted.
Looking forward to having him here and giving him opportunities to make the club.
Biggio Sees Houston as His Best Opportunity
Biggio expressed confidence that joining the Astros offers the strongest chance to earn a major league roster spot, considering both his skill set and the team’s current roster needs. The personal significance of playing in Houston, his family’s home, adds to his motivation.
The interest that they showed in me and obviously they needed a left-handed bat and some versatility, and I thought that I fit in really well with that and it gives me the best opportunity to make this club,
Biggio said.
Obviously, Houston being home is a big plus for that.
Looking Ahead to the Season
As spring training progresses, all eyes will be on Biggio to see how his experience and familiarity with the Astros environment translate into performance on the field. His return bridges past and present, and his ability to secure a role will impact the Astros’ depth and lineup decisions moving forward.
