BJP Leader Demands Timely EPF Deposits for Outsourced Workers

In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Tuesday, BJP legislator Vijay Bahadur Pathak highlighted serious irregularities concerning the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) deposits for outsourced workers. He stressed the need for the government to guarantee that all EPF amounts deducted from these workers’ salaries are deposited promptly into their individual accounts.

Government Initiatives and Persistent Issues

Pathak acknowledged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration has demonstrated a commitment to improving conditions for outsourced employees, including the planned establishment of an Outsourcing Services Corporation. However, despite these positive steps, Pathak pointed out many workers face ongoing exploitation problems that were prevalent during prior governments.

He emphasized that although deductions from outsourced workers’ salaries are regularly made, the credited EPF amounts often fail to reach their accounts, causing frustration and complaints among employees. Frequently, responsibility is deflected onto contractors and service providers by officials, leaving these issues unresolved.

Widespread Complaints From Multiple Cities

Reports of delayed EPF deposits have come from municipal bodies across various cities such as Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Agra, Kanpur, and Varanasi. Pathak also cited formal grievances from Lucknow Municipal Corporation outsourced staff accusing a collusion among agencies, contractors, and municipal officials resulting in misappropriation of EPF funds.

Call for Accountability and Systemic Solutions

Describing the situation as a matter of urgent public concern, Pathak demanded the Uttar Pradesh government implement a robust system to ensure timely EPF deposits reflecting deductions from outsourced workers’ wages. He further urged for strict accountability measures to be imposed on those responsible for any violations or delays in EPF fund transfers.
