Real Salt Lake has officially signed 17-year-old forward Van Parker, a standout from the RSL Academy and Canadian youth international, to an MLS Homegrown contract. Announced by Assistant Sporting Director Tony Beltran, the deal extends through the 2029-30 season with the Club holding an option for 2030-31. This key signing strengthens Real Salt Lake’s commitment to developing young talent under the Real Salt Lake Homegrown Player model.
Joining an Elite Group of Academy Graduates
Van Parker is the latest addition to Real Salt Lake’s impressive homegrown roster, joining midfielders and forwards Griffin Dillon, Diego Rocio, and Antonio Riquelme in the 2026 Homegrown class. This marks the Club’s 49th Academy player to reach the first-team stage, a figure that leads all 30 MLS franchises and highlights RSL’s significant investment in youth development.
Beltran Praises Parker’s Dedication and Character
Beltran emphasized the qualities Parker brings to the professional level.
“Van has more than earned this professional opportunity through a remarkable dedication to his craft and the consistent character he’s shown throughout his time in our Academy,”
he said.
“While this contract marks a culmination of his youth career, it is more so the starting line for all required to succeed at the professional level. We are beyond excited for Van and look forward to supporting his continued evolution and growth as he meets the challenges of tomorrow head on.”
Impressive Performances Propel Parker’s Rise
In his 2025 season, Parker was a leading figure in the RSL Academy U16 attack. He scored three goals during the knockout rounds of the Generation adidas Cup, including two crucial strikes in the final that led to a dominant 4-0 win over the LA Galaxy. Building on this momentum, Parker opened the MLS NEXT Cup with six goals and two assists in the first three games. His dominant display earned him both the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup MVP and the Golden Boot, contributing to an historic double victory for the Club.
MLS NEXT All-Star Recognition and Continued Growth
After the 2024-25 MLS NEXT season, which saw Parker’s team win the league’s two most prestigious tournaments, he was honored with a spot as an MLS NEXT All-Star. Parker started the All-Star game and played the first half for the West team, further showcasing his talent on a bigger stage.
Parker Expresses Gratitude and Ambition
Reflecting on his signing, Parker shared the significance of reaching this milestone.
“It’s a surreal feeling being here now, in this moment, accomplishing a dream I’ve had since I was a kid,”
Parker stated.
“This Club means a lot to me, it’s helped me grow since entering these doors as a kid. The moment I walked into this campus, the coaches and front office believed in me, always pushing me to become my best self. I’m excited to continue to put in the work and develop further.”
International Experience Bolsters Parker’s Development
Van Parker has become a consistent presence with Canada’s U17 national team, earning regular call-ups by head coach Mike Vitulano. Last year, Parker featured in all four matches for Canada at the 2025 U17 World Cup in Qatar, where the team secured its first-ever victory in the tournament with a 2-1 win over Uganda. This international exposure adds valuable experience as Parker transitions to the professional ranks.
Significance of Signing for Real Salt Lake’s Future
Signing Van Parker reflects Real Salt Lake’s steadfast strategy to develop exceptional youth players and integrate them into the first team. Parker’s proven ability during high-level youth competitions, combined with his professional attitude praised by Tony Beltran, positions him as a vital asset for the Club’s upcoming seasons. As he embarks on his MLS journey, Parker’s growth will be closely watched by the RSL coaching staff and fans eager to see another Academy star rise.
