St. Louis CITY SC has secured 28-year-old Venezuelan international forward Sergio Córdova on loan from Swiss club BSC Young Boys until June 30, 2026, with an option to buy. Córdova is set to join as a Designated Player, pending his international transfer certificate and P-1 visa, and will fill an international roster slot for the team.

Corey Wray, St. Louis CITY SC’s Sporting Director, explained that bringing Córdova on loan offers valuable short-term depth while preserving flexibility for the club’s future plans.
“Adding Sergio on loan gives us valuable depth and short-term reinforcement while maintaining the flexibility that is important to our long-term plans,”
said Wray.
“We are always looking to maximize the MLS roster mechanisms and putting Sergio in the DP spot will benefit us in several ways while also giving us options moving forward. Beyond that, he brings qualities we value in a striker with his movement, ability to link play, and stretch defenses. We are excited to get him integrated with the group and look forward to what he can add over the coming months.”
Extensive Career Across Multiple Leagues and Continents
Córdova joins St. Louis CITY SC with a rich playing history spanning Europe, North America, and South America. The Calabozo, Venezuela native began his career at Caracas FC before moving to Germany’s Bundesliga, where he appeared for FC Augsburg and Arminia Bielefeld. His MLS journey started with Real Salt Lake, debuting in a goalless draw against Houston Dynamo. In 2022, he scored 11 goals for RSL before joining Vancouver Whitecaps. Beyond MLS, Córdova spent time playing in Turkey with Alanyaspor, Russia with FC Sochi, and Switzerland for BSC Young Boys.
International Experience and Youth Success
Internationally, Córdova has earned 19 caps with Venezuela’s senior national team. He first gained wider recognition with the Venezuela U-20 team, winning Player of the Tournament at the 2016 Copa de los Andes. During the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, he scored four goals, including one honored as Goal of the Tournament, showcasing his high potential at a young age.
