LA Galaxy announced on Saturday that they have secured midfielder Marco Reus with a contract extension lasting through the end of 2027. The extension reflects the club’s desire to maintain the German international’s influence following his summer 2024 arrival, where he made an immediate impact in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Reus’ Contributions to LA Galaxy’s Ongoing Success
Since joining LA Galaxy, the 36-year-old has appeared in 42 matches across competitions, contributing nine goals and thirteen assists. His presence played a pivotal role in helping LA Galaxy win their record-setting sixth MLS Cup title in 2024, further establishing the club’s dominance in the league.
Leadership and Impact Praised by Club Management
Will Kuntz, the general manager of LA Galaxy, praised Reus for the quality and leadership he brings to the squad.
“Marco brings an incredible level of quality, experience, and leadership to our group,”
Kuntz said.
“His professionalism and daily standards elevate everyone around him, and his impact both in the locker room and on the pitch is immeasurable. We’re excited to have him continue playing such an important role for our club.”
Reus’ Career Prior to Joining LA Galaxy
Before his move to the United States, Marco Reus had an illustrious career with Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, making 429 appearances with 170 goals and 131 assists. Additionally, he earned 48 caps for the German national team, scoring 15 times, solidifying his reputation as an accomplished international player.
Future Outlook for LA Galaxy and Reus
With this contract extension, LA Galaxy aims to build on their recent successes by retaining key players like Reus who contribute experience and consistency. As the team plans upcoming seasons, Reus’ leadership on and off the pitch is expected to guide younger players and sustain the club’s competitive edge in MLS.
