Major League Soccer (MLS) has determined that Lionel Messi, captain of Inter Miami, did not violate league rules after scrutiny over claims he accessed the officials’ locker room without permission. This review followed a video that surfaced after Inter Miami’s game against LAFC on Saturday evening at the LA Memorial Coliseum, showing Messi entering a certain area near the officials’ facilities.
According to the league’s findings, the zone Messi entered was not off-limits, and the door he used was not an entrance to the referees’ private changing room. As a result, MLS has decided not to refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.
Officials Confirm Messi Did Not Enter Referees’ Private Area
Chris Rivett, communications director for the Professional Referee Organization (PRO), publicly supported the league’s conclusion after verifying details with match officials.
“After speaking with match officials, we can confirm he did not enter the premises,”
Rivett said, clarifying the incident and dispelling doubts among fans and media alike.
Match Context and Team Reaction to the Incident
The controversy arose following Inter Miami’s 3-0 loss to LAFC, a game in which Messi played the entire duration. Despite the heavy defeat and the locker room access claims, Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, stated he did not witness any signs of frustration from Messi regarding the refereeing during the match. When asked about Messi’s attitude toward the officials, Mascherano said,
“No, no, no I didn’t see anything. The truth is that the match finished and then I went into the locker room.”
Upcoming Fixture for Inter Miami
Inter Miami will face Orlando City next on March 1 at the Inter&Co Stadium. This upcoming game marks an opportunity for the team to recover from their recent defeat and move forward past the off-field distractions surrounding the locker room controversy.
