Brad Keselowski had a difficult day competing at Circuit of the Americas, finding himself near the back of the pack as he continues recovering from a broken leg. The challenges of racing while returning from such a serious injury have clearly impacted his performance, leading to visible frustration on the track.
Extended Pit Stop Affects Positioning Early in the Race
During Sunday’s event at COTA, Keselowski spent an extended period on pit road, which caused him to fall behind most of the field once he rejoined the race. Early in the competition, he expressed his struggles over the radio, highlighting poor grip and handling difficulties.
It’s pretty tight at turn-in on every corner, and then from there it’s like I have too much wheel in it and it really shoots the back out hard on me,
Keselowski said early on his radio.
… I’m just really, really struggling here with no grip.
Background on Keselowski’s Broken Leg and Recovery
Keselowski suffered a serious injury last December when he broke his right femur in a skiing accident. Initially, medical reports estimated a six-month recovery period. Despite this prognosis, he made a surprising return by participating in the Daytona 500 only a few months after the incident. However, the lingering effects of the injury may still be affecting his ability to compete at full capacity, especially on challenging road courses like COTA.
Brad Keselowski received a lot of props in pre-race for trying to run the full race at COTA as he continues to recover from his leg injury. But he's dropped from 26th all the way back to 33rd
