Stephen Curry Apologizes to Kuminga Over Ridiculous Leak

On Wednesday, an ESPN article highlighted troubling reports regarding Jonathan Kuminga’s time with the Golden State Warriors, revealing a fractured relationship between the player and the organization. The story exposed petty disagreements, including the Warriors monitoring how much food Kuminga’s family was taking from the team’s family room, which contributed to tensions leading up to his trade.

According to multiple sources cited by ESPN,

“He knew management wanted to ding him for missing a team-requested event and alert him that someone around him was taking too much food from the family room. The gripes between player and organization, as multiple sources said, had become ‘petty’ in the fifth year of a relationship many believed should’ve ended years before.”

Kuminga Reacts to Public Complaints About Warriors

While player critiques commonly emerge post-trade, the unusual level of attention to such minor details made both Kuminga and the Warriors appear shallow. After the trade sent Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks last week, he was updated on the ESPN story. A now-deleted Instagram post from Bleacher Report’s account, addressing the food-related complaints, caught his attention and prompted a reaction.

Kuminga expressed his frustration visually with 32 laughing emojis followed by a rolling-eyes face and asked, “What else?”

Stephen Curry Issues Apology to Kuminga

Stephen Curry, the Warriors’ star player currently sidelined by injury, saw Kuminga’s response and decided to address the matter himself, apologizing on behalf of the team. Curry dismissed the leaks as nonsense and encouraged Kuminga to focus on his success.

He wrote,

I’m sorry, bro,

This is ridiculous. Go be Great!

Trade Fallout and Future Prospects for Both Teams

Neither Jonathan Kuminga nor Kristaps Porzingis, the other main figure from the trade, have yet to debut with their new teams. Porzingis is recuperating from an Achilles injury and is expected to return after the All-Star break. Kuminga is also recovering from a knee injury and will not be active until the break passes.

The Atlanta Hawks, who received Kuminga and Buddy Hield in the trade, have seen Hield already step on the court, though his first game ended in a loss and a limited five minutes with no points and a turnover.

The remainder of the season holds uncertainty for both teams as they await the impact of their new pieces. The Warriors face considerable scrutiny because Kuminga was their seventh overall draft pick five years ago, and the team struggled to develop him into a star player. Should Kuminga flourish in Atlanta as Curry hopes, it will reflect poorly on Golden State for trading him away and not maximizing his potential while he was there.

At the very least, if Kuminga achieves greatness elsewhere, the Warriors might find a slight consolation in recalling the trivial complaints about his conduct, such as the incident involving food from the family room.
