Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe hit two critical free throws to clinch a 25-24 win for Team Vince against Team Melo in the Rising Stars championship game held Friday in Inglewood, California. This thrilling finale came after a series of competitive matches showcasing the young NBA talent.

Strong Performances Define Semifinal Matches

The Rising Stars event featured a unique format where the final game was played to 25 points, while the two semifinal contests had target scores of 40. Edgecombe not only led scoring in the final with six points but was also outstanding in the semifinals, earning Most Valuable Player honors for his overall 17-point performance on 6-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-4 beyond the arc. His efforts propelled Team Vince past Team T-Mac by a 41-36 margin.

On Team Melo, San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper led the final with eight points and contributed five rebounds. Team Melo had advanced to the final by defeating Team Austin 40-34 in their semifinal, powered by nine points each from Donovan Clingan of the Portland Trail Blazers and Reed Sheppard of the Houston Rockets.

Team Austin featured a notable showing from Los Angeles Clippers rookie Yanic Konan Niederhauser, who scored 11 points despite their semifinal loss. For Team T-Mac, second-year Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jaylon Tyson was a standout, compiling 10 points and five rebounds in the semifinal defeat.

Coaches and Event Context Within NBA All-Star Weekend

The four teams were led by veteran coaches Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, and Austin Rivers, adding depth and experience to the young players’ showcase. The Rising Stars game is a highlight of the NBA All-Star weekend held in Inglewood, which also includes the three-point contest, Shooting Stars event, dunk contest, and more on Saturday night.
