Giannis Antetokounmpo announced on Saturday that he feels completely healthy as he continues recovery from a right calf injury. While he stopped short of confirming whether he will be cleared to play in the Milwaukee Bucks’ upcoming game this Friday in New Orleans, Antetokounmpo indicated he is making strong progress toward getting back on the court.
Progress Made Following Calf Injury and Extended Absence
Antetokounmpo has missed the Bucks’ previous nine games after suffering a second right calf strain on January 23. Despite that setback, his rehab is reportedly moving well. Although the Bucks explored trade options involving the 10-time All-Star before the February 5 deadline, Antetokounmpo remains with the team as they face challenges in securing a spot for the Eastern Conference play-in tournament.
Stepping Closer to Practice and Competitive Play
Comments from Antetokounmpo suggest he is expected to resume some level of practice this week after the All-Star break, potentially participating in one-on-one, three-on-three, and five-on-five drills. He said,
“I feel like the [All-Star] break doesn’t help, because now I gotta get on the court, I gotta play some 1-on-1, 3-on-3, 5 vs. 5…Once I check all those boxes, I’m ready to go. I feel like I can play a game today.”
?Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks Forward
Even if he does not receive clearance for the Friday matchup, a return before the month ends remains likely. Giannis’ recovery and impending comeback are critical for Milwaukee, which currently holds a 23-30 record and needs the impact of their star player to improve their standing in a tightly contested postseason race.
