Tyler Herro made a noticeable impact in his return to the Miami Heat lineup on Friday during their victory over the Atlanta Hawks. After missing 15 games due to fractured ribs, the 2025 All-Star came off the bench to score 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting in only 23 minutes, leading all scorers. In addition to his scoring, Herro contributed four rebounds, three assists, and a steal, demonstrating an efficient and well-rounded performance.
Coach Spoelstra Focuses on Gradual Reintegration
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra clarified that Herro’s current role as a reserve is part of a strategy to ease him back into competitive action rather than a definitive change to the starting roster. Spoelstra refrained from specifying when Herro might reclaim a starting position, emphasizing a cautious approach to the guard’s minutes and involvement.
Right now we’re just trying to get him out there,
Spoelstra said.
We are going to manage the minutes. I’m not overthinking it, I’m not putting anything in cement, I don’t have a timeline for anything. We’re how many ever games into the season right now and we finally have our full roster. We’re just going to try to maximize these next 25 games as much as possible and we just want everybody just to pour into the team, pour into the role, don’t overthink things at this point.
Herro Prioritizes Health and Building Consistency
Since suffering the rib fractures last month, Herro has worn a protective flak jacket during his return to the court. His main objective now is to remain healthy while regaining his rhythm alongside the full Miami roster. Having appeared in only 12 games this season, Herro is focused on contributing steadily without risking further injury.
I just want to get out here and play with the whole team, get comfortable, and just stack some healthy games together,
Herro stated.
Just try to play a stretch of games where I’m healthy. That’s all that’s on my mind.
Next Steps for Herro and the Heat
Herro’s return marks a key phase in the Miami Heat’s season as they approach the final 25 games with a fully available roster. His ability to stay injury-free and maintain consistent performance will be crucial for the team’s ambitions. With Herro becoming extension-eligible this offseason, his ongoing health and form could significantly influence roster decisions moving forward.
