Charles Lee Praises LaMelo Ball’s Impressive Progress

The Charlotte Hornets have experienced a surge of enthusiasm over the past two months, a feeling shared not only by fans but also by head coach Charles Lee. The team’s improved performance and the energy from the home crowd have created an exciting atmosphere at the Spectrum Center. Lee highlighted how the crowd’s response fuels the team’s momentum during games.

Coach Lee Reflects on the Impact of Fan Support

During a conversation with Owen O’Conner from Hornets on SI, Lee responded warmly when asked about the energy from the fans.

“It’s very exciting. I love that you asked me that question too, because I’ve been wanting to actually give a shoutout to the crowd… Even the beginning of the game, like you said, you can feel it in the (player) intros. As soon as they announce our starters, the crowd starts to get buzzing a little bit. The energy is increasing. I’m really proud of our guys for how they’re making this a product that’s easy to cheer for, and root for. Also just making the fans proud to want to rally behind this group. We appreciate it, and the energy at home has really given us a boost,”

Lee explained.

Overcoming Offensive Struggles Against Portland

Charlotte’s recent game against Portland presented challenges on offense, with both teams struggling to score. However, the Hornets showcased resilience and maturity by maintaining composure despite poor shooting. Lee highlighted this development as a sign of growth for the team and credited players’ focus on adapting during difficult stretches.

According to Lee,

“(Winning with bad shooting is a) sign of a good team, shows a sign of maturity to not be so dependent on making shots… between a great next-play mentality and controlling the controllables, our guys have shown great maturity to understand whatever the game is calling for. They’re trying to impact winning as much as possible.”

LaMelo Ball’s Noteworthy Development on Both Ends

Much of the team’s progress starts with LaMelo Ball, the Hornets’ max-contract star, who has made significant improvements in his game this season. Coach Lee observed that changes in Ball’s habits on offense and defense stand out and reflect his offseason efforts and the work of the performance staff.

In Lee’s words,

“He’s just moving his feet more, moving his feet better. It’s a testament to him, his offseason work, and our performance staff. He looks like he’s just moving great on both ends of the floor… I’m really happy and proud with the progress he’s made.”

Upcoming Challenges and Opportunities for Charlotte

The Hornets will rest for two days before hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas’s coach, Jason Kidd, has indicated that their promising rookie Cooper Flagg is unlikely to participate in the game. A victory against Dallas on Tuesday would extend Charlotte’s winning streak to five games, achieved during the first half of a back-to-back schedule.

Following that home contest, Charlotte travels to Boston for a high-stakes matchup against the Celtics on Wednesday night, with Boston’s impressive nine-game road winning streak at risk.

Significance of Charlotte’s Momentum and LaMelo’s Rise

The Hornets’ recent performances demonstrate a growing confidence within the team and a deeper connection with their fans, energizing their play on the court. LaMelo Ball’s development as a versatile and mature player is central to this upward trajectory. As Charlotte prepares to face tough opponents in Dallas and Boston, maintaining this momentum could be crucial in solidifying their status as contenders heading into the season’s second half.
