Tobias Harris Credits Bickerstaff’s Leadership for Pistons’ Surge

Despite a rocky start against the Orlando Magic on the road, Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff never lost confidence in his team’s ability to recover. The Pistons struggled early in the game, missing their first 15 three-point attempts and falling behind 57-50 at halftime, but Bickerstaff’s leadership kept the players focused, leading to a strong second-half comeback and a 106-92 victory that helped maintain their hold on first place in the Eastern Conference. Tobias Harris, a key veteran player, credited the coach’s calm belief during the tough start as vital for their turnaround.

Harris Steers Pistons’ Second-Half Momentum

Tobias Harris found his rhythm after a slow first half, where he shot only 3-for-8 and appeared out of sync as the Pistons fell behind. The team returned from the break with renewed energy, tightening their defense and finally hitting shots beyond the arc. Harris, who scored 15 of his total 23 points in the last two quarters, said,

“He just keeps telling us, if we have good looks, take them. He knows our group. We know the valuation of the game and what is going for us, and what we need to keep on gearing towards in moments like that where they aren’t falling.”

He added,

“There are certain times we just kind of have to adapt a little bit… let’s get into the paint, let’s get our defense and get us out in transition, so we have to figure it out on the fly, but coach will give us that type of confidence as well. It is big for this whole group, and we feed off of that.”

Strong Defensive Effort Lifts Pistons in Second Half

Harris praised the team’s defensive adjustment after halftime, which played a key role in turning the game in Detroit’s favor.

“Obviously, we knew first half that wasn’t to our standard of defense, too far off bodies, not physical enough, just not making the extra effort. So, we were able to come out in the second half, get that all cleaned up and together,”

he said.

“Defensively, that second half gave us a huge boost. That kind of really led to our momentum.”

Continuing Road Success Solidifies Pistons’ Position

The comeback victory extended the Pistons’ impressive road performance, marking their sixth consecutive win away from home. Detroit now holds a 45-14 overall record, having won eight of their last nine games and 10 of their last 11 away. Their current road record stands at 21-7, a sign of growing resilience and maturity for a franchise that was once focused on rebuilding. These results highlight the importance of Tobias Harris’s leadership on the floor and J.B. Bickerstaff’s steady guidance from the bench as the Pistons aim to remain a top contender in the East.
