Comedian Reveals How Charming Travis Kelce Left Lasting Impression

Comedian Ron Funches recently reflected on his brief tenure on Peacock’s reality competition The Traitors, revealing how his loyalty to Donna Kelce, mother of NFL star Travis Kelce, played a role in his elimination. Funches and Donna developed a connection early in the series, influenced by his pre-existing familiarity with her son, which led other contestants to question his alliances during filming in Scotland.

Appearing on ESPN’s Viewer Discretion, Funches described the experience as an intense and unique challenge. He said,

“Being on the popular show with its celebrity cast was one of the most intense, unique experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Ups and downs,”

Reflecting further, he compared the experience to a lengthy Martin Scorsese film, stating,

“Like I said it before, it’s like a long Scorsese movie where I’m like, ‘Oh my god.’ I learned about me. I was thrilled and I never want to watch that again.”

Funches’ admiration for Donna Kelce was deeply connected to his previous encounters with her son. He first met Travis Kelce in 2024 while participating on the game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity. Praising Travis as an amazing game show host, Funches said he was immediately struck by Kelce’s charm and warmth.

He recalled,

“And I’m like, damn, this man (is) charming as hell. I get it, this is why you … marrying a billionaire. He is so charming and so sweet and so kind.”

Travis Kelce later invited Funches to a Kansas City Chiefs game and made sure he got inside safely, giving Funches confidence in the values of Kelce’s family.

Funches explained,

“And so I knew whoever raised him was good people,”

followed by,

“So when I met who raised him, I was going to treat them with respect and love and joy.”

This respect guided Funches throughout the show, even after Donna Kelce was unmasked as a secret Traitor and eliminated in the third episode.

Why Ron Funches Maintained His Support for Donna Kelce in the Game

Funches admitted that he did not anticipate how standing by Donna Kelce would impact his position in the competition. His elimination in episode six, which aired on January 22, was partially due to other players suspecting collusion between him and Donna Kelce.

He explained,

“That was my thing, I didn’t know that if someone was a traitor I was supposed to be a jerk to them and be mean to them and ostracize them. I didn’t know that.”

Ron Funches, Comedian.

He added,

“If I had known those were the rules I would have followed them. But I was always taught to treat people with respect and kindness.”

Even after discovering Donna was a Traitor, Funches said he continued offering his support during challenges, aiming to assist her where he could.

He said,

“Even by the second roundtable, when I knew she was a traitor, I was gonna still ride with her,”

and added,

“She’s a kind human and a good person.”

Funches also noted,

“Sometimes the challenges were a little difficult for her, so I wanted to make sure I was around to help. I don’t see any issue with that personally, but I guess other people did.”

Jason and Travis Kelce React to Their Mother’s Experience on ‘The Traitors’

Donna Kelce’s sons, Jason and Travis Kelce, shared their views on their mother’s participation in the show during their New Heights podcast. Jason praised Donna’s gameplay and resilience amid the intense competition.

He commented,

“I thought she did fantastic, Like, I know she was eliminated, but I think it’s really hard to go into those shows as, like, an outsider that you become, like, an easy target to try and maneuver in that show.”

Jason went on to share,

“I loved watching her in it. She was way more deceitful and devious than I thought Mom could ever be, which was surprising.”

Travis Kelce echoed his brother’s praise, saying,

“She stood her ground at the round table.”

He expressed pride, adding,

“I was so proud of her, man, She looked like she was having a blast, enjoying it all… it was just so cool to see her in this moment.”

Travis also acknowledged Ron Funches’ support for their mother during the show, recognizing that the comedian likely had mixed feelings upon learning Donna was a secret Traitor.

He stated,

“probably felt a certain way after he found out she was the secret Traitor.”

Furthermore, Travis commended his mother for delivering a positive message through her participation, commenting that Donna was

“giving the world a beautiful message”

about embracing new opportunities at any stage in life.

The Broader Impact of Funches’ Approach on the Show

Ron Funches’ decision to treat others with kindness, even amid a game built on deceit and suspicion, stood in stark contrast to typical reality competition strategies. His experience highlights the tension between personal values and game dynamics, especially in settings where alliances and betrayals are central to success. The comedian’s story underscores how authenticity and respect can be perceived as vulnerabilities in high-stakes environments.

Looking ahead, Funches’ reflections may inspire future contestants to balance gameplay with integrity, encouraging audiences and contestants to reconsider the emotional complexities underlying competitive reality shows like The Traitors.
