FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Michael Penix Jr. has publicly discussed his progress after suffering a season-ending ACL injury, providing insight into his current recovery stage and his thoughts on the recent hiring of Kevin Stefanski. Speaking with Kay Adams during the Super Bowl media events, Penix expressed cautious optimism about his rehabilitation process.
Progress Made in Rehab Following Third ACL Surgery
Penix underwent ACL surgery in early November, marking his third such procedure, although the prior two affected his opposite knee. Drawing from past experiences, he feels more prepared this time around to handle the demanding rehabilitation.
“I am doing real good right now. I just met with my doctor,”
Penix stated.
“… We are starting to get things going. I am doing a lot of strengthening and stuff right now. I know I will be back and ready whenever the time comes.”
Reflecting on his familiarity with the recovery process, Penix added,
“This is my third time going through it now, so I kind of knew what to expect. I knew how to attack the rehab process so that I can be better.”
Looking Ahead to a Possible Early Season Return
When pressed about his timeline for returning to the field, Penix acknowledged that aiming to be cleared for Week 1 of the upcoming season is definitely his goal. His hopeful outlook underscores the determination to come back stronger after another challenging setback.
