David Njoku will no longer be playing for the Cleveland Browns after nine seasons with the team, a decision he confirmed in an Instagram post on Monday night. The tight end, who began his NFL career in Cleveland, expressed gratitude to the city and organization as he prepares to continue his career elsewhere.
In his post, Njoku wrote,
“Cleveland, first off I love you. These 9 years have been a beautiful journey,”
and added,
“I’m am so grateful for all the memories we shared together. Thank you to The Haslams, Andrew Berry and the whole browns organization for everything!! All my teammates I shared the battle with I’m so grateful for you guys. The time for me to find a new home has come and all I can think of is just the gratefulness in my heart. The city of Cleveland will forever be home.”
He closed his message with a heart emoji and the hashtag “ChiefOut.”
Njoku’s Impact and Career Highlights with the Browns
Selected as the 29th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Njoku has been a key player for the Browns throughout his tenure. He ranks second in franchise history among tight ends with 34 touchdown receptions and 384 catches. Despite injury problems in the last two seasons, which caused him to miss 11 games combined, Njoku remained an important figure on the team. His performance earned him a Pro Bowl selection in 2023, underscoring his status as one of the franchise’s top tight ends.
Though Njoku’s production dipped last season with only 33 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns—the fewest since 2020—he maintained a strong presence on the field. Rumors about his potential trade surfaced before the NFL deadline in November, but no deal was made at that time.

Upcoming Changes within the Browns Organization
The Browns are poised for substantial changes under new head coach Todd Monken, signaling a shift in team strategy and personnel. General manager Andrew Berry has hinted at considerable offensive turnover, a move that suggests the departure of veterans like Njoku was expected. This transition aims to reshape the roster and improve performance following recent seasons.
What Lies Ahead for David Njoku and Cleveland’s Future
David Njoku’s decision to move on closes a significant chapter for both the player and the Browns. His departure reflects the evolving direction of Cleveland’s football squad as it adapts to new leadership and seeks fresh talent. For Njoku, finding a new team offers a chance to revitalize his career and continue building on his contributions to the NFL.
For the Browns, this change marks the start of a rebuilding phase that could define the franchise’s competitive edge in the near future. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the team restructures its lineup and what roles emerging players will assume in the revamped offense.
