Mike White’s Georgia Deal Extended with Big Raise Revealed

Mike White, head coach of Georgia’s men’s basketball team, has earned a contract extension and a notable salary increase after leading the Bulldogs to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this season. The agreement, confirmed by the Athens Banner-Herald, raises White’s annual pay by $200,000 to $3.91 million for the current season.

Details of White’s Contract Extension and Compensation Growth

The contract extension runs through the 2030-31 season, with White’s salary set to rise by $100,000 annually, reaching $4.41 million in the final year. This extension solidifies his long-term role as Georgia’s head coach amid the program’s recent progress. The updated deal also outlines scaled contractual buyouts tied to White’s potential departure.

Structure of Mike White’s Contract Buyouts

The buyout amounts if White leaves Georgia are tiered as follows: $10 million before the 2025-26 season ends; $8 million after 2025-26 but before 2026-27; $6.5 million between 2026-27 and 2027-28; $5 million through 2028-29; and $3.5 million before the contract’s conclusion. Additionally, in the event Georgia fires White without cause, the buyout ranges from 75% of the contract length through 2026-27 to 40% after 2026-27 through 2029-30, and back to 75% of the final year after 2029-30.

Georgia Basketball’s Rising Momentum Under Mike White

Under White’s leadership, Georgia has become increasingly competitive, securing an NCAA Tournament berth for the second straight year. Before White, the Bulldogs rarely qualified in back-to-back seasons, accomplishing this only three times historically, with the last occurring in 2001 and 2002.

The team broke a three-game losing streak recently and is preparing for a significant home game against the defending national champions Florida on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. This marquee matchup offers another chance for Georgia to build on its upward trajectory.
