Dan Quinn Hints at Bigger Jayden Daniels Role with New Playcalls

The Washington Commanders will introduce a new offensive coordinator in 2026, with head coach Dan Quinn revealing at a recent press conference that David Blough will take over playcalling duties. Quinn indicated that while Blough’s familiarity with quarterback Jayden Daniels is an asset, the primary goal is to enhance Daniels’s offensive impact as part of their strategic planning.

Fresh Offensive Approach to Feature Daniels’s Strengths

Although Blough previously served as the team’s quarterbacks coach and gained experience under Kliff Kingsbury, Quinn emphasized that the offensive scheme next season will differ markedly. He described the upcoming strategy as an aggressive, balanced attack that will incorporate more under-center formations than before, aiming to utilize run action and play-action passes to create explosive plays.

This is going to be like an aggressive, balance attack that will probably have more under center than we have in the past,

Quinn said.

That’s also for run action and play passes to generate explosive plays. We’re going to feature every part of Jayden that makes him unique and special, but also the run action and the runs and the play action game that goes with it.

Health and Performance of Daniels Remain Vital to Offensive Success

Jayden Daniels missed 10 games during the 2025 season due to injuries, making his health a critical factor in the effectiveness of the new offense under Blough. Quinn’s plans to build the offense around Daniels’s versatility highlight the quarterback’s central role in the Commanders’ offensive future as they look to maximize his talents in the upcoming campaign.
