Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, fresh from winning the Super Bowl, shared his imaginative vision of who should portray him if a movie is made about his unlikely career comeback. The NFL player, whose story has captured wide attention, suggested some unexpected Hollywood names during a recent conversation with TMZ Sports.
Darnold’s Surprising Choices for His On-Screen Role
While recalling potential actors to play him, Darnold humorously reached for the name of the red-haired star Rupert Grint, best known as Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter series, even joking,
“Trying to think of the one person who has red hair in Hollywood.”
He also mentioned Jesse Plemons, nodding to the villain from the 2002 basketball movie Like Mike. However, his top pick was a more conventional leading man.
“I think another good one would be a classic like Brad Pitt,”
Darnold said.
“I think he could play a good quarterback — I’d have to see his throwing motion — but yeah, I think he could be a good quarterback.”
The Reality Behind Darnold’s Career Resurgence
Darnold’s path to NFL glory, culminating in Seattle’s Super Bowl title, is considered one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent sports history. Once labeled a bust after difficult seasons with various teams, the former third overall draft pick rebuilt his career and led the Seahawks to championship success. The story’s inspiring twists seem tailor-made for a Hollywood screenplay.
Following the big win, Darnold appeared at Raising Cane’s to celebrate with fans, thanking over 1,000 supporters who came out to honor the team. Despite the excitement, Darnold said the achievement still feels surreal, even after a celebratory trip to Disneyland.
“I actually got some good sleep last night — we got home relatively early from Disneyland,”
he revealed.
“I was able to kind of soak it all in with my teammates and coaches this morning. Just an amazing experience, man. To be able to do it with this group is truly special.”
Blocking Out Doubters Fueled Darnold’s Success
Darnold emphasized the importance of self-belief and surrounding oneself with supportive people during challenging times. Reflecting on his journey, he advised keeping close those who matter and ignoring negative voices.
“Continue to keep those that are close to you in your tight circle close — and any doubters or naysayers, it doesn’t matter what their opinion was,”
he said.
Fun and Festivities After the Super Bowl Win
When asked about plans for the Seahawks’ Super Bowl parade, Darnold joked that he intended to keep the celebration low-key and alcohol-free, but quickly admitted, “I’m being facetious, yes.” This lighthearted remark hints that the festivities will likely be lively.
Given the compelling narrative and Darnold’s charismatic presence, a film about his Super Bowl journey, featuring Brad Pitt or another star, could attract plenty of interest from both Hollywood and sports fans alike.
