Blake Corum’s Breakout Season Fuels Rams’ Run Game Surge

Blake Corum has rapidly become a vital part of the Los Angeles Rams’ offense during the 2025 season, complementing fellow back Kyren Williams. After seeing limited time as a rookie, Corum now participates in 30.5% of the Rams’ offensive snaps, marking a significant surge in his role and impact on the field. This increased presence has boosted not only his individual output but also enhanced Williams’ effectiveness by allowing fresher legs during games.

Statistical Gains Highlight Corum’s Rising Impact

The Rams’ backfield duo delivered historic results, leading a running game that posted the highest success rate on designed running back carries over the past decade, including playoffs, at 49.7%, according to Next Gen Stats. The statistics capture Corum’s improvement in explosiveness and consistency, playing a critical role in this achievement.

Expected Points Added (EPA) per attempt measures how each play affects the potential scoring outcome, while success rate reflects the percentage of carries generating positive EPA, essentially plays that sustain offensive momentum. Corum’s numbers in both categories showed noticeable progression, helping the Rams elevate their ground attack.

Explosiveness and Vision Elevate Corum’s Performance

Corum’s development became clear during training camp at Loyola Marymount University, where his quick cuts and long runs impressed observers. Compared to his rookie season, when he rushed only 58 times, the second-year back displayed remarkable growth in speed and decisiveness.

His explosive run rate climbed by 9%, pushing the team’s overall figure to 11.2%, the Rams’ best since 2018. Corum averaged a 10-plus yard run every 6.3 carries, ranking second among players with at least 100 attempts. This jump added a dynamic, breakaway threat missing from last year’s squad, which stood near the bottom of the league with an 8.2% explosive run rate.

Beyond speed, Corum’s combination of sharp jump cuts and straightforward northsouth running earned him a 49.7% success rate, third best among qualified running backs in the regular season. His improved ability to locate and exploit openings allowed him to hit holes more effectively and finish runs more consistently than before, a visible change on game film.

“First, the offensive line, they have to do a great job, and they do,”

Corum stated.

“But other than that, I’m reading where my blocks are gonna go, what type of defense they’re in, and where it could possibly hit. And then I just go from there, I let natural instincts take over, let vision take over, and when I see something, I try to hit it as fast as possible because in the NFL, those gaps close really quick and you have to hit it.”

Significance of Corum’s Breakout and Rams’ Future Prospects

The surge in Blake Corum’s performance has not only strengthened his own status but also rejuvenated the Rams’ running game, creating more balance and explosiveness on offense. This tandem with Kyren Williams could prove defining for the team’s attacking strategy moving forward, especially as they aim to sustain top-tier production throughout the season and in the playoffs.

Corum’s breakthrough demonstrates how rapid growth, vision, and speed can translate into consistent success at the NFL level. The Rams’ renewed ground game offers a promising foundation for future campaigns, highlighting the importance of well-developed backfield partnerships in competitive football.
