Devin Bush Free Agency Sparks Major NFC Team Race

As the NFL season wraps up, attention turns to free agency, with Devin Bush’s future drawing significant interest. The linebacker, who has spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, emerges as a coveted player this offseason amid a surge in market value due to his recent performance.

Potential Fit with Washington Commanders Highlighted

Among the teams considering Bush is the Washington Commanders, especially given the uncertainty surrounding veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner’s contract. Analyst Mason Cameron points out that Bush could fill a similar defensive role while bringing youth and recent impressive statistics to the position.

Cameron elaborated,

“With Bobby Wagner’s contract set to expire, the Commanders may be in the market for a new defensive centerpiece. While Washington could re-sign Wagner, the front office may be aiming to get younger on defense, and Bush would profile as a strong option to replace the veteran. Bush revitalized his career in Cleveland. He took on an increased role in 2025 and posted a career-best 87.6 PFF overall grade, third best among qualifying linebackers this season. Like Wagner, Bush is a high-caliber run defender, having earned an 85.0-plus PFF run-defense grade each of the past two seasons. But Bush may be an improvement in coverage, where he produced a career-best 80.4 PFF coverage grade this past season,”

Career Progress and Recent Performance

During his two years with Cleveland, Bush has stepped up significantly, starting in 10 of 16 games in 2024 and compiling 76 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and a sack. His consistent improvement earned him a starting spot in all 17 games in 2025, showcasing his durability and value on defense.

Despite Cleveland’s interest in retaining him, Bush is expected to enter free agency as the Browns reshape their defense following the departure of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Implications for Teams and Upcoming Free Agency Dynamics

Devin Bush’s strong finish to the past seasons and his clear upward trajectory make him a prime target in this free-agent class. If Washington decides to part ways with Wagner, they would likely need to offer a competitive contract to bring Bush aboard, but they face competition from other teams eager to leverage his talents.

How Bush’s next chapter unfolds will have significant implications for teams looking to bolster their linebacker corps and defensive schemes in the coming season.
