John Ross Lamp, aged 73, of Parkersburg, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 13, 2026. Born on February 5, 1953, in Parkersburg to Howard and Wilma Clegg Lamp, John was a devoted member of the 36th Street Church of Christ in Vienna, WV. His life was marked by his deep faith and a joyful spirit that touched many.
A Dedicated Worker and Family Man
After graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1971, John worked at various local plants throughout his career, including Fenton Art Glass, Johns Manville, and Elkim. His final position was as a mechanic at American Municipal Power until the plant closed. In 1974, John married his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Monroe Lamp, and together they raised one son, Dustin C. Lamp of Parkersburg.
Joyful Personality and Love for the Outdoors
Known for his humor and kindness, John was a natural joker who never failed to make people laugh and easily connected with strangers. His generosity was evident in his willingness to help anyone in need. John cherished his family, faith, and the outdoors, often spending time gardening, mowing, hunting, and especially bass fishing with his close friend Bob Hill.
Family and Survivors
John is survived by his wife Nancy, son Dustin, and three grandsons: Bradley Scott Lamp of Marietta, and Austin Nathaniel Kupfner and Dylan Michael Kupfer, both residing in Parkersburg. He also leaves behind two sisters, Patricia Hill of Williamstown and Karen Hoover of Parkersburg, as well as three brothers: David, Mark, and Scott Lamp, all of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Twyman of Belpre and Judith Dunn of Whipple, OH.
Final Wishes and Celebration of Life
John chose cremation and requested no formal funeral service. Instead, a celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, February 28, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the 36th Street Church of Christ, where Pastor Doug Kashover will speak. Friends and family will share a covered dish meal in honor of his memory.
Facing Alzheimer’s with Courage and Faith
For over a decade, John bravely battled Alzheimer’s Dementia, confronting the illness with steadfast faith and courage. Throughout his struggle, his family found moments of laughter and love, underscoring the strength of their bond during difficult times.
Appreciation for Caregivers and Support
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Amedisys Hospice staff for their dedicated care, especially nurses Jenn, Ashlee, and Courtney, along with aides Travis and Renae. Donations in John’s memory are welcomed by the Alzheimer Association or Amedisys Hospice, honoring those who supported him through his final days. The MOV Cremation Society is handling his arrangements.
