Titans’ Robert Saleh on Will Levis and NFL Combine Prospects

At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh engaged with reporters to discuss key players the team is evaluating this offseason, including quarterback Will Levis. Saleh expressed optimism about Levis’s potential to compete for a role with the Titans, emphasizing the importance of a strong offseason in preparation for the NFL.

Saleh Praises Edge Rusher Rueben Bain’s Skills and Potential

Saleh highlighted his admiration for Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain, describing Bain’s on-field performance as impressive and impactful. According to Saleh, Bain’s game tape “is undeniable,” showcasing not only physical toughness but also a high football IQ. While acknowledging that adjustment challenges lie ahead, the coach expressed confidence in Bain’s future success at the professional level.

Defining the Ideal Traits for Titans’ Cornerbacks

Addressing the Titans’ need at the cornerback position, Saleh outlined the attributes he looks for in defensive backs. He emphasized a fearless approach to contact, stating that players must embrace physicality to thrive in the Titans’ defense. Saleh explained that while coverage skills are important, cornerbacks must be willing to

“stick their face in the fan.”

This level of aggression and toughness is non-negotiable for the role.

Positive Evaluations of Quarterback Will Levis

Saleh shared details about his recent conversation with Will Levis and reflected on previous encounters, including facing him during the 2024 season. He praised Levis for his size, arm strength, and natural talent, signaling strong confidence in the quarterback’s ability to compete. Saleh’s advice to Levis was straightforward: focus on a rigorous offseason and challenge himself to earn his place on the roster.

“Just met him, had a really good conversation with him the other day,”

Saleh said.

“My one exposure to him (as a coach) was back in ’24, we played them in Week 2. I do think he has tremendous talent, he has tremendous size, tremendous arm strength. Again, I’m looking forward to him. I’ll tell you guys the same thing I told him: Just attack this offseason, have the best offseason of your life, compete your butt off and let’s see what happens.”

“I am really looking forward to him being a part of this football team.”

Defensive Lineman T’Vondre Sweat’s Challenges and Strengths

In addition, Saleh discussed conversations with defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat, noting that while Sweat possesses surprising agility for his size, adapting to the Titans’ defensive system will require significant effort. Saleh acknowledged the physical demands involved but affirmed his belief that Sweat is capable of handling the transition.

“He’s a big man, and he has much faster feet that people realize,”

Saleh noted.

“Is it going to be easy for him? It’s not, it’s a lot of work and it is physically demanding to play d-line in our system,”

Saleh said.

“But I do think he’s up to the task.”

The Vital Importance of Face-to-Face Evaluations at the Combine

Returning to the NFL Combine for the first time since 2019, Saleh underscored the tremendous value of in-person assessments. He explained that direct interaction with prospects allows crucial evaluation time that cannot be replicated remotely, making every moment at the combine essential to building a strong team.

Any time you get face time … with these young men. Every minute is crucial when you are trying to evaluate these guys.

Looking Ahead for the Titans’ Roster and Prospects

Saleh’s comments reflect the Titans’ focused approach to building their roster through the draft and offseason training, emphasizing physical toughness, intelligence on the field, and determination. With promising players like Will Levis, Rueben Bain, and T’Vondre Sweat under evaluation, the Titans are aiming to strengthen key positions and develop talent capable of contributing in the NFL’s demanding environment.

As the offseason progresses, the team’s success will depend on how these athletes embrace competition and adapt to the coaching staff’s expectations, making the coming months critical in shaping the Titans’ future performance.
