49ers in Talks to Extend WR Jauan Jennings’ Contract

San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch confirmed on Tuesday that the team is currently engaged in discussions with wide receiver Jauan Jennings regarding a potential contract extension. Jennings, an unrestricted free agent, has attracted attention following a career-best performance last season.

Jennings’ Journey and Performance Overview

Jennings, 28, played four years as a starting receiver for the University of Tennessee before being selected by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Initially signed to a four-year contract valued at over $3.4 million, Jennings faced an early setback when he was waived after the preseason and placed on the practice squad. However, he persevered, rejoining the team on a futures contract for the 2021 season and eventually securing a spot on the active roster.

Prior to the 2024 season, Jennings signed a two-year extension worth $15.4 million. In the 2025 season, he appeared in 15 games, making 55 receptions with a total of 643 yards and scored nine touchdowns, marking a personal best.

Outlook and Significance of Contract Talks

John Lynch stated,

“We’ve been in contact with Jauan. We’ll see where that goes,”

highlighting the team’s cautious but hopeful approach toward securing Jennings’ future with the 49ers. Given Jennings’ steady development and significant contribution to the team’s offense, these negotiations could play an important role in the 49ers’ strategy moving forward.
