Titans Aim to Lock Up Peter Skoronski with New Extension

Tennessee Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi is eager to extend left guard Peter Skoronski’s time with the team, despite not being involved when Skoronski was picked in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Skoronski, a three-year veteran, has proven his reliability by starting all 48 games since joining the Titans. Borgonzi expressed the organization’s intention to secure Skoronski’s long-term presence during a Wednesday press conference held at the Scouting Combine.

Team Strategy for Contract Talks

Borgonzi acknowledged that while the team could use the fifth-year option available on Skoronski’s rookie deal, their preferred course is to negotiate a new agreement.

“We always try to secure our best players early,”

Borgonzi said.

“And that is obviously a tool, an option we can use. But our goal is to get something done with Peter. . . . With Peter, he is one of our better players and we’d like him here long-term. The fifth-year option is always a tool, a mechanism you can use. But we are going to work to try and get something done with Peter.”

Financial Implications and Future Outlook

If the Titans opt to activate Skoronski’s fifth-year option, his salary in the 2027 season is expected to exceed $20 million and be fully guaranteed, shaping the financial framework for any extended contract negotiations. This deal would not only solidify his role with the team but also underline the Titans’ commitment to maintaining key players amid ongoing roster decisions.
