The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans have reached an agreement to trade pass rusher Jermaine Johnson II to the Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, according to league sources on February 26 in Indianapolis. This transaction will officially take effect after the NFL‘s new league year begins on March 11.
Player Profiles and Contract Details
Jermaine Johnson II, 27, was selected by the Jets with the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Over his first four seasons, Johnson accumulated 13 sacks. In the previous season, he played 14 games and recorded 43 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, and two passes defensed. The Jets exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract last April, securing him through 2027 before free agency.
On the other side, T’Vondre Sweat, 24, was a second-round pick by the Titans in the 2024 NFL Draft. During his two seasons, he tallied 85 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two passes defensed, along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 366 pounds, Sweat remains under contract through 2027.
Trade Implications for Both Teams
The Jets, holding the second and 16th overall picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, aim to address their defensive line needs by acquiring Sweat while also potentially opening up opportunities at pass rusher. Meanwhile, the Titans, who own the fourth pick in the draft, will bolster their pass-rushing squad by adding Johnson to their roster.
