Taylen Green Crushes Anthony Richardson’s Combine Records

At the NFL Combine on Saturday, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green set new standards by surpassing three combine records previously held by Anthony Richardson. Green achieved standout marks in the vertical jump, broad jump, and the 40-yard dash, showcasing exceptional athleticism.

Specifically, Green recorded a 43.5-inch vertical jump, an 11-foot-2-inch broad jump, and a lightning-fast 4.37-second 40-yard dash. These performances surpassed Richardson’s records from the 2023 combine event in Indianapolis.

Next Gen Stats confirmed that Green reached a top speed of 23.40 miles per hour during his 40-yard dash, emphasizing his elite explosiveness and speed on the field.

Taylen Green on His Combine Performance and Athletic Background

Green shared insights about his effort at the combine, highlighting the importance of his quick start in the sprint event.

“So the emphasis was the start. I knew the my back 20 was going to be good,”

he told Stacey Dales of the NFL Network.

Known for his dynamic personality, Green detailed the preparation and execution of his combine drills during an interview.

“Man this was fun… record setting QB Taylen Green! He walked me through every aspect of his combine performance with his dynamic personality… plus, his fiancée is also competing today – and his future in the NFL💪,”

said Stacey Dales.

Green also noted his background in track and field jumping events, which contributed to his exceptional vertical and broad jumps at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Evaluating Green’s NFL Future After His Arkansas Career

While Taylen Green’s combine numbers have reset expectations for quarterback athleticism, his success in the NFL is not yet guaranteed. His predecessor, Anthony Richardson, has experienced inconsistent results and has already requested a trade from the Indianapolis Colts.

Green has shown flashes of strong play against Southeastern Conference competition, excelling especially as a runner. Highlight reels of Green reading defensive coverages, such as the 4i gap, have garnered praise.

Coach Dan Casey captured one such moment:

“Taylen Green reading the 4i 😍.”

Before the combine, NFL Network analyst Lance Zierlein provided a comprehensive scouting report on Green, describing him as

“a long, rangy, dual-threat quarterback with upside, Green’s ability to generate explosive plays as a runner and passer helped keep his offense afloat.”

However, Zierlein also acknowledged Green’s challenges with in-game consistency and noted the disruption caused by the midseason firing of Arkansas coach Sam Pittman.

What Green’s Combine Success Means for the NFL Draft

Green’s outstanding combine performance is likely to elevate his draft stock as teams consider creative offensive packages leveraging his athleticism. His rare blend of speed and jumping ability may inspire NFL franchises to envision specialized run-pass option (RPO) plays designed to maximize his dynamic skill set.

Though the path ahead requires proving consistency and adapting to NFL-level competition, Green’s record-setting day has firmly placed him on scouts’ radars and stirred hope for his professional potential.
