Dallas Cowboys Waive Logan Wilson, Free $6.5M Cap Space

The Dallas Cowboys made a significant roster move Friday by waiving linebacker Logan Wilson, freeing $6.5 million in salary cap space. Wilson, who joined the team at the trade deadline to strengthen the linebacker unit, now departs after a short stint with Dallas as the franchise manages its financial and roster priorities.

Wilson’s On-Field Performance with Dallas

During seven games with the Cowboys, Wilson contributed 28 tackles and forced one fumble. Despite these efforts, he only started once and saw his playing time decline notably near the end of the season. In particular, Wilson was absent from snap counts in the Christmas Day victory over the Washington Commanders, an omission later described as a coaching mistake.

Trade Background and Bengals Tenure

The Cowboys acquired Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick. Wilson had been a key defensive player and was voted a team captain by the Bengals in 2025. However, his role diminished after rookie Barrett Carter became the preferred choice at linebacker, prompting the Bengals to trade him.

Wilson’s NFL Journey and Impact

Over five seasons with Cincinnati, Wilson started 65 games and made 11 interceptions. He played an important part in the Bengals’ run to Super Bowl LVI, which ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams. His release from Dallas reflects the Cowboys’ strategy to manage cap space carefully as they prepare for the upcoming offseason.
