The Cincinnati Bengals have confirmed the re-signing of right guard Dalton Risner to a one-year contract, ensuring his presence on the offensive line for the 2026 season. This agreement, announced on March 2, comes ahead of the NFL’s free agency kickoff later this month and highlights the team’s continued focus on protecting quarterback Joe Burrow.
Risner’s Strong Performance Earns Contract Renewal
Risner, who joined the Bengals late in the preseason, appeared in 14 games last season and started nine at right guard, including the final seven consecutive contests. His pass blocking was notably effective, posting a 92.6% win rate which, according to ESPN, is the best mark by any Bengals player since Zac Taylor took over as head coach in 2019. Additionally, Risner earned a run blocking grade of 69.0, ranking 23rd among his peers.
Pro Football Focus assessed Risner’s overall performance by rating him 26th out of 81 offensive guards in the league, with a 69.4 grade. This level of play contributed significantly to the Bengals’ offensive line stability during the last season.
Maintaining Continuity on the Offensive Line
Before Risner’s extension, he was the only starting offensive lineman without a contract for 2026. Now signed to a deal reportedly worth up to $5 million, Risner will join teammates Ted Karras, Amarius Mims, Orlando Brown Jr., and Dylan Fairchild, all expected to return as part of the Bengals’ offensive front. This move ensures the team’s strategy to provide reliable protection for Joe Burrow remains intact.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season
With the official start of the 2026 NFL league year set for March 11 at 4 p.m., the Bengals have begun positioning themselves early in free agency by securing one of their key linemen. Retaining Risner solidifies their offensive line depth and signals the team’s commitment to maintaining continuity as they prepare for the upcoming season in Cincinnati.
