Ex-Eagles LB Reveals 3 Top Teams Eyeing A.J. Brown Trade

A.J. Brown trade rumors have resurfaced as the NFL approaches the free agency period. The Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver has been linked to possible moves this offseason, following dissatisfaction expressed last season about his role within the team. Given his combination of experience and athletic ability, Brown could attract significant interest from multiple teams looking to enhance their receiving corps.

Former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho weighed in on which teams might be best suited to pursue Brown, highlighting three AFC contenders he considers prime candidates for such a trade.

Emmanuel Acho’s Perspective on Brown’s Trade Value

With seven years in the league, Brown brings a physical presence and proven track record, making him a potentially valuable asset for contenders. However, Acho advises caution in overvaluing the wide receiver’s trade cost.

“A.J. Brown is only worth a first-round pick if he’s the difference between you and a Super Bowl,”

said Acho during his appearance on Speakeasy.

“Maybe the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills. If A.J. Brown is the difference between you and a Super Bowl — Denver Broncos — he’s worth a first-round pick.”

These teams achieved strong seasons and are considered close to contending for the Lombardi Trophy, where Brown’s impact might tip the scales.

Evaluating Brown’s Recent Performance and Age

Brown’s most recent season marked some of his lowest statistical output in four years. He recorded 1,003 receiving yards with an average of 12.9 yards per catch, reflecting a decline compared to his peak years. Meanwhile, the Eagles faced challenges themselves and did not perform at the usual high standards.

With Brown approaching 30 years old, his window of top-level production is becoming more limited, impacting his trade valuation.

“If A.J. Brown is the difference between eight, nine, 10, and seven [wins], he’s not worth a first-round pick,”

Acho explained.

Financial and Contractual Considerations in a Trade

Acho also pointed out the financial repercussions tied to acquiring Brown through a trade. Brown carries a contract commitment exceeding $100 million, which would be a significant salary cap consideration for any team.

“Because not only will you have to pay A.J. Brown a $100-plus million, whatever his contract now is, that you’re gonna have to eat up, you’re also not gonna have that first-round pick who’s gonna be on a rookie deal for five years that you get to own him for.”

“On top of that, A.J. is, what, 28, 29-years-old. So, even if you get A.J. Brown for four years, you’re not getting him on the four years on a rookie deal like you’d get a rookie for.”

These factors underscore the strategic cost teams must weigh when considering trading high draft capital for a veteran star.

Brown’s Role in Philadelphia and Implications for Interested Teams

Philadelphia made a significant move in 2022 by trading for Brown, who quickly became an integral part of their offense alongside DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. His presence helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl for the first time in five years.

“A.J. is worth a first-round pick if he’s the missing piece [for a Super Bowl],”

Acho stressed.

“Remember, A.J. Brown was the missing piece for the Philadelphia Eagles to help them get to a Super Bowl and, inevitably, help them win a Super Bowl. By no means should you give up a first-round pick if you’re, per say, the Arizona Cardinals.”

The Cardinals fall outside the range of teams that Acho believes should surrender a first-round selection for Brown, reflecting their current standing relative to championship contention.

The Patriots, Bills, and Broncos all demonstrated competitiveness last season and could view Brown as the physical talent needed to secure a championship.

Looking Ahead to the Offseason and Trade Market

As free agency approaches, the A.J. Brown trade rumors will likely intensify, with several contenders weighing a potential investment in the veteran receiver. His contract size, age, and recent productivity will shape the dialogue around his value relative to the draft capital required.

Teams near the top of the AFC ladder will have to balance the immediate benefits of acquiring Brown against the long-term assets they might relinquish. How these teams approach the trade market could significantly impact their Super Bowl aspirations for the upcoming season.
