Texans Extend Trent Brown’s Deal in Surprising Move

The Houston Texans have agreed to a one-year extension with offensive tackle Trent Brown, potentially worth up to $7 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move comes as Houston continues to reshape its offensive line during the offseason, having recently traded away Tytus Howard and Juice Scruggs.

Trent Brown’s NFL Journey and Contract History

Trent Brown, 32, entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2015 by the San Francisco 49ers. In 2018, he was traded to the New England Patriots in a draft pick swap. After completing a four-year contract worth $2.28 million, Brown signed a lucrative four-year deal valued at $66 million with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019, which included $36.75 million guaranteed.

Brown’s tenure with the Raiders ended when he was traded back to the Patriots in March 2021. He spent part of that season on injured reserve before returning to play the second half. The Patriots then re-signed him to a two-year, $13 million contract in March 2022. Subsequently, Cincinnati agreed to a one-year contract with Brown for the 2024 season.

Recent Activity and Role with the Texans

In March 2024, the Texans initially signed Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. After being cut following the preseason, he joined Houston’s practice squad before returning to the active roster in October. During the current season, Brown has played in seven games, starting all seven at right tackle.

Impact of Brown’s Extension on Houston’s Offensive Line

This extension highlights Houston’s commitment to stabilizing its offensive line despite recent roster changes, including trading away key players like Scruggs and Howard. Brown’s experience and starting capability provide valuable depth as the Texans look to rebuild their protection schemes and offensive consistency for future campaigns.
