Darious Williams, the cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams, has officially retired after an eight-year career in the NFL, the team announced on Saturday. This development marks a significant moment as the Rams undergo changes in their defensive backfield.
Williams, 32, spent six seasons with the Rams across two separate periods and played a key role in their Super Bowl LVI championship during the 2021 season. Over 100 regular-season games, he recorded 12 interceptions, defended 77 passes, and made 306 total tackles.
Williams’ Career Path and Contract Details
Following the Super Bowl victory, Williams signed a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After completing two seasons there, he was released and subsequently returned to the Rams, with one year remaining on his contract at the time of retirement.
Rams Strengthen Secondary Amid Ongoing Roster Adjustment
With Williams’ retirement, the Rams face further changes at cornerback, as four of their current cornerbacks are set to become free agents. To bolster their defensive unit, Los Angeles recently acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie in a trade, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move reflects the Rams’ efforts to rebuild their secondary ahead of the upcoming season.
