The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with offensive lineman John Simpson, bringing back a player who previously spent time with the team. The deal was confirmed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport and highlights the Ravens’ commitment to bolstering their offensive line.
Career Path and Previous Contracts
Simpson, age 28, was a standout player at Clemson, where he started for two seasons and received All-American recognition. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders selected him at No. 109 after trading up with the Detroit Lions. He initially signed a four-year rookie deal worth just over $4 million, which included a signing bonus of nearly $800,000, but the Raiders released him with one year remaining on that contract.
Following his release, Simpson joined the Ravens’ practice squad and eventually moved up to the active roster during the 2023 season. After becoming an unrestricted free agent, he signed a two-year, $18 million contract with the New York Jets.
Recent Performance and Expectations
Simpson started all 17 games for the Jets in the 2025 season, demonstrating durability and consistency at the guard position. With the Ravens securing him under a new multi-year agreement, they aim to strengthen their offensive front with a player familiar with the team’s system.
