Gardner Minshew has agreed to a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 29-year-old quarterback’s deal is valued at $8 million, marking the next chapter in his NFL career with the Desert team.
Career Background and Recent Performance
Minshew played last season with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he started one game after Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL. Unfortunately, Minshew sustained a bone bruise in his knee during that game, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Since being drafted in the sixth round in 2019, Minshew has consistently started at least one game each season.
In 2023, he held a 7-6 record as a starter for the Indianapolis Colts and earned a Pro Bowl selection. Earlier in the 2024 season, with the Las Vegas Raiders, he started nine games, completing 66.3% of his passes for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Experience Across Multiple Teams
Over his career, Minshew has played in 63 games and started 47 across five teams: Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, and Kansas City Chiefs. His experience adds depth to the Cardinals’ quarterback group, especially as Kyler Murray departs.
Quarterback Room Dynamics in Arizona
With Kyler Murray leaving the Cardinals, Minshew will join Jacoby Brissett and Kedon Slovis in the team’s quarterback room, aiming to provide leadership and competition at the position.
