Travis Kelce is returning for his 14th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs, driven in part by the encouragement of his fiancée, Taylor Swift. Their shared passion for their professions played a major role in Kelce’s decision to continue playing football despite recent challenges.
Kelce Credits Swift’s Passion for Inspiring His Return
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Kelce reflected on how witnessing Swift’s dedication influenced him.
“We share the same love for what we do, and fortunately, we’ve had this desire since we were kids in our selective professions. It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies and, on top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does,”
he said.
He added that seeing her enthusiasm was a motivating factor during a time when he was uncertain about his future.
“Of course that’s motivating. That’s motivating for anybody to see, let alone my fiancée, knowing that I’m going through something where I’m trying to figure out exactly what the future holds for me. Something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what, I’m not done, either.’”

Details of Kelce’s Contract and Season Outlook
Kelce has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs for the upcoming 2026 season, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting the contract could be valued up to $15 million. After a season where he recorded 76 catches for 851 yards, Kelce was determined not to end his career following a disappointing 6-11 team record.
Reflecting on his decision process, Kelce told The Pat McAfee Show,
“It was pretty short and brief, and the Chiefs knew where I was the entire time on it,”
and continued,
“You always need to take a step back, breathe and let the emotions of the season settle down and see where the body is. Man, I’m still in love with this game. I still love going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and just playing the game.”
Looking Ahead to Life After Their June Wedding
Kelce and Swift are planning to marry in June, after which Kelce will dedicate himself to at least one more football season. Their relationship appears to provide both emotional support and inspiration as Kelce commits to continuing his career with renewed motivation.
